Super Bowl: Most controversial moment in half-time history

When it comes to Super Bowl half-time shows they are no doubt sometimes talked about just as much as the all important game itself.

For Super Bowl LV, The Weeknd was given the coveted performance slot, but it was another half-time show from way back in 2004, that has also been trending on social media - the infamous 'wardrobe malfunction' of Janet Jackson.

If for some reason you need a refresher - the 2004 Super Bowl half time show featured Kid Rock, Nelly, and Diddy, before Janet Jackson took to the stage.

She rocked it, performing All for You and finishing with Rhythm Nation, before Justin Timberlake joined her for a surprise performance of Rock your Body from his debut album.

Janet and Justin had worked together previously, so she remained on stage to sing the duet with Justin, which resulted in the moment which many now believe defined both of their careers.

At the end of very last line of the song Timberlake sings "I’m gonna have you naked by the end of this song", and proceeded to pull a piece of fabric from Janet's outfit, completely exposing her breast.

The moment completely blew up at the time causing a media storm and is even credited for being the reason YouTube exists.

And even though it was Justin Timberlake's song and lyrics, it was Janet who copped pretty much all of the public backlash and took the biggest hit when it came to her career.

After the event, he was quoted telling Access Hollywood, “Hey man, we love giving you all something to talk about.”

Where as, Janet was forced to release a written statement and a video apology.

The discussion of the incident has resurfaced off the back of the release of the documentary Framing Britney Spears, which also discusses how Timberlake profited from how his break up with Britney was portrayed.

And a popular hashtag, which first went viral during Justin Timberlake's own headline half time show for the Super Bowl 52 halftime show, 14 years after the Janet 'moment', is again being used on Super Bowl Sunday in 2021.

#JanetJacksonAppreciationDay was trending on Twitter as a protest of Timberlake being chosen to perform at halftime and is still being used this year.
