Sunrise's David Koch outraged over UNO rule change: 'Who approved that?'

Sunrise host David ‘Kochie’ Koch was left outraged on Wednesday morning after he learnt of a recent rule change for the popular card game UNO.

According to the game’s official social media account, players are allowed to avoid a Draw 2 by using a Skip card.

“Skipping never felt so good,” they wrote on Twitter. “If someone plays a Draw 2 on you and you have a Skip card of the SAME COLOR in your hand, you can play it and ‘bounce’ the penalty to the next player!

“The next player must draw the two cards, unless they have a Skip card (of any color) they can play, in which case they pass the penalty to the next player and so on until no one has a Skip card and must draw two cards.”

Kochie was furious when newsreader Monique Wright shared the update, asking, “Who came up with that change?”

“Who approved it?” he exclaimed. “Did it go to a match review committee or anything like that?”

“I think we need to do a deep dive into this,” Monique added. “Some of the biggest fights I’ve ever been involved in have involved UNO.”

“And you’ve had some doozies?” Nat Barr replied, to which Monique laughed, “I’ve had some big ones in my day! It’s terrible!”

‘Who even uses UNO rules?’

After Sunrise shared the clip on social media alongside the caption, “Do the creators of UNO know how to play UNO?”, a number of followers took to the comments to share their thoughts.

“Everyone knows the only way to miss a draw 2 is to drop another draw 2 and make the next player pick up 4,” one person wrote.

“I’m still going to play with the normal rules,” another added, while a third remarked, “Who even uses UNO rules? Everyone has their own rules”.

“This has always been a rule in my house ever since I was a kid,” someone else shared, followed by a different user who commented, “I want to see the Sunrise team play UNO after that change”.

The outrage comes after UNO angered fans in 2019 when they confirmed that Draw 4 cards and Draw 2 cards cannot be stacked.

“If someone puts down a +4 card, you must draw 4 and your turn is skipped,” they tweeted. "You can’t put down a +2 to make the next person Draw 6. We know you’ve tried it.”
