After having announced in June this year that she’s expecting her first child, Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew has a message for other pregnant women.

In a new interview, the 36-year-old Channel Seven personality urged other expecting mums to not drink alcohol while pregnant, saying she was astounded to learn of some shocking relevant statistics.

“I was quite shocked that 28 per cent of Australians don’t realise the effect drinking can have on your baby and these are incurable conditions,” she told The Daily Telegraph.

“Things like developmental issues and low weight and intellectual issues later on. And it can have a real detrimental effect on the health of your unborn child. I thought everyone knew it was a no go.”

The TV star revealed she actually stopped drink alcohol in the lead up to falling pregnant. It then made sense for her to become a spokesperson with DrinkWise as she continued not consuming alcohol once she became pregnant.

Edwina, who is 26 weeks into her pregnancy, is heading off on a holiday to London with her husband Neil Varcoe.

It’s there she looks forward to enjoying a babymoon for just over a fortnight, before she’s back on the ground in Sydney, where she usually presents on Channel Seven’s popular breakfast TV show.

Edwina and Neil, who have been together for eight years, tied the knot in a gorgeous ceremony at their property in Capertee Valley, NSW, last year.
