Gina TorresGina Torres is revealing how being on Suits changed her life.
In a recent interview The Hollywood Reporter, the actress, 55, shared her reaction to the rise in popularity of Suits after it started streaming on Netflix in 2023. Although the series ended in 2019 and Torres left in 2016, she said it has only become more common for people to recognize her for her role as Jessica Pearson.
“I don’t know what to make of it, honestly,” she shared. “It has gotten harder to walk through airports, that much I can tell you, for sure. I think it is indicative of what a great show it was. It taps into a kind of aspirational drive that we all have for ourselves and maybe a future that we see for ourselves."
She continued: "To be that impossibly witty, that impossibly well-dressed, and that impossibly good-looking all the time, is impossible. But why the hell not try? Why the hell not?”

Gina Torres as Jessica Pearson on 'Suits'.Reflecting on playing a lawyer at a prestigious law firm in Suits and later EMS captain Tommy Vega in 9-1-1: Lone Star (which came to an end with its Feb. 3 series finale), Torres said she takes pride in playing such strong characters.
“I feel personally responsible for entirely too many new attorneys in the world, but maybe I will get to counterbalance that with more first responders in the world,” she joked. “We’ll see!”
She also noted that being a woman in these powerful roles makes it all the better.
“I love being a woman. I enjoy being a woman. I have no desire to be anything other than who I am, and I enjoy the body that I’m in, and so I bring that to all of my characters, until there comes a time where my character is not written in that way,” she said. “So I don’t see my sex, my gender, as a detriment to anything that I can do. It certainly does not disqualify me from being a boss, from being intelligent, from being capable. So, why would I sacrifice any part of that in a part that I’m playing?”
She then explained: “Too often, we are told historically, as you mentioned, that that can’t happen; that you have to be a man in a man’s world. You have to pull all of that up to be able to compete. I disagree. I think it’s far more powerful and far more interesting to not bow and bend the knee to the masculine in the room. There’s no need to.”

Gina Torres in 9-1-1: Lone StarWith a Suits spinoff, Suits LA, in the works and 9-1-1: Lone Star’s predecessor 9-1-1 still on air, Torres addressed the possibility of reprising any of her iconic roles.
“I have no idea. I really can’t speak to Suits LA at all. I haven’t spoken to anybody,” she confessed. “I wish them the best, though. I really do hope they have a great ride and that they enjoy what hopefully is getting ready to happen.”
“The 9-1-1 universe — again, I have no idea,” she added. “I don’t know what goes on in these guys’ brains!”
As for what she does think her next job will be, Torres said she hopes to continue the path she has been on.
“I think in line with what I was just talking about, there are so many different ways of being a woman in the world, right? And I’m dedicated to exploring as many of those ways as possible,” she explained. “I’ve often said it’s lovely to be able to play those women who don’t have every answer, who aren’t sure of what comes next, someone who really might let her lesser angels dictate what her next move is going to be. I think that’s great, and I see that in the future for myself. There’s certainly some comedy that comes of that, so we’ll see. I’m so grateful for everything that’s come along.”
