‘Succession’ star Nicholas Braun releases catchy pop-punk quarantine anthem 'Antibodies (Do You Have The)'

Though the lyrics are hardly poetic, Braun sings them with such emo passion (emo-tion, if you will) that it doesn’t even matter.

Just after earning his first-ever Emmy nomination for his portrayal of the lovably aloof Cousin Greg on “Succession,” Nicholas Braun has blessed us with a poignant pop-punk anthem about dating during a global pandemic.

Braun first introduced the song to his followers on May 7 when he went on Instagram Live and shared the lyrics he had written so far: “Do you have the antibodies? / Do you want to be with me? / Do you have the antibodies / ‘Cause if you don’t, you better stay away!”

From there, Braun’s followers submitted some riffs and, with the help of established producer Colin Brittain, who has worked with the likes of Dashboard Confessional and Papa Roach, he brought “Antibodies (Do You Have The)” to life.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Braun explained that the inspiration for the quarantine jam came from a socially distanced date.

“My friends are a couple and they’ve been together for years, but I was back there sort of being like, ‘Man, I wish I had somebody right now to go through this with,'” Braun told Rolling Stone. “And so this girl and I were talking and we were like, ‘Maybe we should go meet up and go for a walk — with bandanas on.’ So I went on this quarantine date; it sort of felt secret because I didn’t want my friends to know. And I guess the combination of paranoia and romance is what the song is about.”

Though the song started off as something of a joke, Braun started taking it seriously when someone from Atlantic Records reached out to him and expressed interest.

And honestly, thank god they did: Though the lyrics are hardly poetic — at the beginning of the song, Braun rhymes “safe” with a cursive-sounding “breathe” — Braun sings them with such emo passion (emo-tion, if you will) that it doesn’t even matter.

Part of the proceeds from “Antibodies (Do You Have The)” will be donated to Partners In Health and Community Outreach & Patient Empowerment (COPE), so don’t feel bad about listening to this antibody anthem over and over again.
