Strangers help soldier celebrate baby's birth at airport
What is usually an intimate moment between a family in a hospital room, has been extended out to the crowds at an airport, after passengers helped delay a flight so a soldier could watch the birth of his daughter over FaceTime.
US soldier Brooks Lindsey was training interstate and waiting return to his wife Haley’s side for the birth, when their plans were unexpectedly changed.
After being told by her doctor that her blood pressure was too high and putting stress on the baby, Haley was rushed to hospital early to be immediately induced.
Brooks was ordered to book a flight home and granted a four-day stay, but he couldn’t get on a flight until the next day.
He was scheduled to fly out from Dallas, Texas, at 3:55pm, but his flight was delayed by two hours and thankfully so because at 5:00pm it was go-time for Haley to start pushing.
“My mother in law secretly FaceTimed Brooks and shoved the phone in the front of her shirt. When I began to push, the Doctor asked what she was doing, and she showed my Doctor Brooks’ face on the screen and she realised what was going on,” Haley told Love What Matters.
“Brooks was telling me it was okay, and I was doing so good and I heard him wincing and saying ‘wow!’ through my pushes. I could hear people in the airport talking and cheering! Brooks then went on to say that they were making him board.”
“All I remember was my Doctor screaming ‘Don’t let him board the flight! She’s here! She’s here!’ So, the airport personnel let him sit there and watch till it was over!”
#Congrats to Spc. Brooks Lindsey on the birth of his daughter! He was stuck in Atlanta due to flight delays traveling from mobilization training in Texas with the 2nd Battalion, to get home to Brandon, Miss., for the birth. He watched it via FaceTime in the airport. #MSNG pic.twitter.com/Tdn2ofuPWA

A few hours later, and Brooks arrived at the hospital in Mississippi to meet his new baby girl, telling Haley about all the people on his flight who had been cheering and watching the moment unfold.
Unfortunately, the reality for these soldiers meant that he would be off again in just four days… but their special story has since gone viral Facebook after being shared by a fellow passenger.
This Army soldier was on my delayed flight home yesterday to MS. He had to watch the birth of his daughter on FaceTime….
