Stranger Things episodes from previous seasons have been edited without show bosses informing viewers.

Co-creator brothers Matt and Ross Duffer have admitted to switching things up but refused to say which episodes have been altered.

“We have ‘George Lucas-ed’ things also that people don’t know about,” Matt Duffer told Variety, referring to the Star Wars director’s habit of editing his films years after they’d been released.

Ross Duffer then added that fans could use physical DVD and blu-ray copies to scan for the differences now that the episodes available on Netflix have all been updated.

The pair also shared their plans to alter an episode from the current series — the first volume of season four — in a bid to make up for a gaffe surrounding the date of one character Will Byer’s birthday.

Fans noticed that an episode appeared to be set on Will's birthday — the date of which had been established in a previous series

The Duffer brothers admitted that this was a continuity error on their part.

“We were talking about it yesterday, and I think we’re going to George Lucas that,” said Matt, adding to Variety. “I’m just glad we’ve turned ‘George Lucas’ into a verb.”

The pair also confessed that the had changed visual effects in series four episodes that were released in May.

The duo also defended the over two-hour run time of the season-four finale, which has faced some criticism for being too long.

The first part of the series, which premiered on 27 May with seven episodes, will wrap up with a two-hour and 19-minute finale, according to the official Stranger Things writers' room Twitter account.

That run time has drawn some criticism about it being too long, but the Duffer said that it felt necessary.

"We looked at the final episode 'cause it's so long. There really wasn't a good spot to break it," Ross added to Variety. "So it's like, why — at the end of the day, you know, if someone wants to pause it, they can."

The series will conclude on 1 July.

Netflix recently released a trailer for the final two episodes of the season, giving a taste of what's to come for the gang.
