Production is set to start in early 2024 with casting underway shortly.
The film was written by George Mahaffey (upcoming Chief of Station starring Olga Kurylenko and Aaron Eckhart). It centers on a young Indigenous game warden who arrests an infamous poacher only to discover that the poacher knows the location of a plane carrying millions of dollars that has crashed in a frozen lake. When a group of criminals and dirty cops are alerted to the poacher’s whereabouts, the warden and the poacher team up to fight back and escape across the treacherous lake before the ice melts.
“Ice Fall promises to be a nail-biting crime thriller in the vein of Wind River meets A Simple Plan. Our director Stefan Ruzowitzky’s vision is a tense and compelling one, full of suspense and intrigue! We cannot wait to see it brought to life,” said Gary Hamilton, chairman of Arclight Films.
“From the first time I saw The Counterfeiters, I knew Stefan was a director I wanted to work with. Throughout his body of work, he has consistently been a visionary director. Having recently worked with the likes of Charlie Hunnam, Kate Mara, Stanley Tucci and Olivia Wilde, we are confident that through working with UTA we will attract a similar level cast that the market will respond to,” added Bramich.
Ruzowitzky’s The Counterfeiters won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2008. Other credits include The Inheritors, Deadfall starring Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde, Patient Zero starring Natalie Dormer, Stanley Tucci and Matt Smith.
Arclight Films’ current slate includes Assassination starring Viggo Mortensen, Al Pacino, Shia LaBeouf and John Travolta, written by David Mamet and directed by Barry Levinson; Renny Harlin’s epic survival thriller Deep Water; the comedy Arthur’s Whisky starring Academy Award-winner Diane Keaton, Patricia Hodge and the legendary Scottish singer/actress Lulu; the biographical crime thriller Miranda’s Victim starring Abigail Breslin, Luke Wilson, Andy Garcia, Ryan Phillippe, Kyle MacLachlan and Donald Sutherland; the Sundance title Fairyland starring Scoot McNairy and Emilia Jones and produced by Sofia Coppola; and the horror-thriller What Remains of Us starring Kit Harington.
