Starstruck season 3 is well on its way, hinting at a bump in the road for protagonist Jessie and her love interest Tom.
Rose Matafeo's comedy will debut its third chapter on BBC Three on August 28, with the trailer confirming Jessie and Tom, played by Nikesh Patel, are no longer together.
Starstruck season two ended things on a sweet note, with the two characters confessing their love for one another.
While that moment made fans hopeful for a relationship to be explored in a further chapter, it seems clear Jessie and Tom parted ways at some point before the events of season 3, which picks up years after their breakup, as per the BBC's official synopsis.
"Two years on from the breakup, Jessie navigates the pressures of adulthood and is confronted with the consequences of her own choices as her friends move on to the next stages in their lives, while Jessie is left questioning what she is really looking for," the summary reads.
In the clip, the two exes reunite at a pregnant Kate's (Emma Sidi) wedding to Ian (Al Roberts) and are pulled closer, with hints that their connection could still be there.
But Tom is with someone new now, which makes the situation more complicated. For her part, Jessie will be navigating single life once again, with the trailer hinting at her getting to know a potential new love interest.
Speaking about why Jessie and Tom are apart at the start of season 3, Matafeo told Digital Spy: "What we wanted to explore is the idea of having a past in your romantic life and trying to figure out how to reconcile that with the potential of falling in love with someone else.
"It could have just been another year of Tom and Jessie going out and crazy pratfalls and stuff that happened because he's famous. I'd be bored by that. As a viewer I don't want to watch that. I want to get to the heavy stuff, so we went straight for the heavy stuff."
Starstruck season 3 premieres on August 28 on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
