Stan Walker lost his stomach after battling 13 cancerous tumours.

Despite doing well after the invasive surgery that has dramatically changed his life, the Kiwi singer has opened up about his fears for the future.

The 27-year-old has admitted that the possibility of passing on the gene to any kids he may have in the future was constantly “in the back of his head” in a raw interview with Daily Mail Australia

“Now I’m getting older I want to have kids. The last thing I want to do is give this ugly thing to my kids,” Stan told the outlet. “But I don’t want them to be the thing that stops me from having kids.”

Stan — who carries a cancer causing gene mutation CDH1 — said it would be awful to watch his own children go through the same suffering he has.

“It is in the back of my head and I don’t want my kids to go through what I went through,” he said, adding he’s determined not to let it deter him from having a family one day.

Cancer ahas plighted his family, with his mum April carrying the same rare cancer gene as him, reports.

Fans first suspected something was wrong with Stan — who shot to fame on Australian Idol nine years ago — when he lost a dramatic amount of weight.

But it was only when he shared a clip of him in hospital back in March 2018 from his upcoming doco that the musician confirmed their worst fears.

“I bet half the people thinking I was on crack or whatever y’all were saying are feel pretty dumb right now,” he wrote alongside the clip at the time.

After undergoing surgery a year ago, Stan is staying positive and is focusing on his music. But has previously admitted he was scared he may never be able to sing again.

Stan Walker: The fight of His Life airs on May 7 on Nine.
