Spotify Reveals the Best Page-to-Screen Audiobooks of 2024
In Spotify's inaugural 2024 Wrapped for Authors, the inspirations behind lots of blockbusters and TV shows made the list

Spotify users are listening to audiobooks on the platform for the first time ever in 2024. As readers are taking in all different genres, one area seeing a spike is readers seeking out the books behind their favorite movies and TV shows like Wicked, The House of the Dragon and more.
While Spotify Wrapped has been sharing music lovers’ top listens since 2016, for the first time ever, the streaming service is also revealing the top audiobook picks of the year in the 2024 Wrapped for Authors.
Book-to-screen adaptations accounted for "66% of Spotify's Top 100 Audiobooks in the U.S. in 2024 [being] greenlit or already adapted for the TV or movie screen,” according to the company.
It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
The dark romance, which was adapted into a film of the same name this year starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, was one of the streaming service’s top audiobooks picks this year. The story follows Lily Bloom’s tumultuous relationship with Ryle Kincaid. It was based on the relationship between Hoover’s own mother and father, and marks a very personal journey for the viral author.

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire
This 1995 novel reveals the backstory for the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz, and served as the loose inspiration behind the 2003 hit Broadway musical Wicked. And with Jon M. Chu’s screen adaptation starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda setting theaters (and the meme world) ablaze, fans are also dancing through life all the way back to the original source material.

Shōgun by James Clavell
Another vintage tale that’s received a new life is this 1975 historic novel, which inspired the hit FX series. The book chronicles the end of Japan's Azuchi-Momoyama period and is loosely based on actual events and real-life people. The TV series picked up multiple Emmys this year and became the first Japanese-language show to win in the Outstanding Drama category.
Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin
Going off the Game of Thrones mania, which was inspired by Martin’s The Song of Fire & Ice, the author’s fantasy epic Fire & Blood has been a must-read for The House of the Dragon viewers as it follows the history of the House Targaryen.

Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn
With the third season of Bridgerton dropping on Netflix in May, this installment of Quinn’s popular Bridgerton series topped the charts as it laid out the love story between Penelope Featherington (played by Nicola Coughlan in the series) and Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton).
