Speculation surrounds why Melania is still in hospital

It was the hospitalisation that was announced to the world at the last minute earlier this week, and four days after having surgery for a benign kidney condition, Melania Trump is still in hospital.

Melania is currently recuperating at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, with her husband Donald Trump coming under fire after it was revealed he only visited the FLOTUS after she had undergone surgery.

While the first lady yesterday sent out a tweet to say she was “feeling great” after the embolization procedure, the length of her stay has some experts questioning why she’s still in hospital.

CNN reports that embolization is often done as an outpatient procedure, which means the patient leaves hospital that day.

According to Dr. Mohamad Allaf, vice chairman of urology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Melania’s continued stay at the hospital is “somewhat atypical but not out of the question”.

“It may be just out of an abundance of caution and privacy,” told CNN.

“Certainly, staying a little longer may imply that this is a little bit more of a complex situation.”

Other experts claim there could be any number of factors at play, with some speculating it makes sense for Melania to make use of the VIP treatment and make sure she is fully recovered and help prevent any further complications down the track.

“Everyone’s pain threshold is a little different,” Dr. Gregory Bernstein told CNN.

“An embolization is pretty painful regardless. Think about it. You are cutting off the blood supply to tissue in the body, which cuts off oxygen, which causes tissue to die, and that can be pretty painful.”
