This is a Spa Made for True Crime Junkies
This might be one of the most unique spa experiences we’ve ever seen. It'll get you wound up all while helping you wind down. It's a true crime spa. Because who doesn’t want a little gruesome murder mixed in with their relaxation experience?
It makes sense when you consider that 56% of people who watch true crime consider it to be “relaxing," according to a study from Peacock.
Peacock took note, opening up a pop-up “Crime and Unwind” spa at Remedy Place in Soho. The spa features quite the lineup of treatments:
The Airtight Alibi (Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber): Step into The Airtight Alibi where high pressure oxygen becomes the perfect accomplice in the pursuit of cellular healing.
Detective Drainage (Lymphatic Drainage Massage Suit): On a mission to track down and eliminate unwanted fluid retention? This compression suit has a flawless record for flushing out the fluid felons. No bad guys (or puffiness) escape this dragnet.
Hot Pursuit (Infrared Sauna): The heat is on in this cutting-edge sauna experience. Like suspects in the hot seat, we're turning up the temperature on toxins until they break. Emerge feeling like you've closed the case on stress and tension. Warning: extreme relaxation may occur.
Cold Case Plunge (Breathwork and Ice Bath Class): A chilling yet invigorating ice bath and breathwork class designed to energize and build mental and physical fortitude. Perfect for those seeking to crack the case of ultimate relaxation. Eleven minutes of immersive breathwork is paired with a guided plunge into 39°F water to stress-test your system and increase your resilience. Prepare to face the cold... and emerge victorious.
Knot Guilty AI Massage (AI Bodywork Scan and Massage): Our AI detective conducts a thorough investigation of every muscle, hunting down tension like a seasoned pro. No knot can hide from this high-tech treatment.
Premeditated Relaxation (Red Light Bed): Currently under investigation for premeditated radiance, this underground operation stimulates collagen production so effectively, you might need a new photo ID. Multiple sources confirm increased cellular activity.
Caught Red Handed Manicure (Signature Manicure): Leave your mark with this bespoke nail treatment. Choose your colors and designs for a manicure as unique as your fingerprints—no two sets are ever the same.
I took part in the Knot Guilty AI Massage. I started out by putting on a set of spandex leggings and a workout t-shirt, both provided by Remedy Place. Then I laid down and the AI tech took note of my body's positioning. Through the headrest I could see the scan of my body and where the robot planned to do its work.
As someone who suffers from scoliosis, I love a massage. I was a bit apprehensive about trying out a non-human version, but I must say I was truly impressed. Some perks include: getting to keep your clothing on, not needing to be touched by strangers and the ability to adjust the pressure of the massage as it went on. As a chronic people pleaser who couldn't fathom speaking out about massage pressure, this feature was quite a treat.
I also spent time in the Hot Pursuit Infrared Sauna. This wasn't my first experience with the sauna, but I did appreciate how high-end the facilities were. The staff queued up some Dateline podcast episodes and the time in the ever so hot heat flew by.
In your downtime at the spa, Peacock has their elaborate collection of true crime available to watch from their relaxation lounges. They're offering things like Dateline and Based on a True Story as well as 200+ other titles. Does this sound like the kind of spa you’d be down for?
