South Carolina's Shi Smith hauls in wild one-handed catch along sideline (Video)

South Carolina’s Shi Smith has established himself as one of the best receivers in the SEC, and he showed it with a spectacular catch on Saturday against No. 15 Auburn.

On a third-down play early in the fourth quarter, Smith dealt with tight coverage on a downfield pass from Collin Hill. He elevated over the Tigers defenders and with one hand essentially tipped the ball to himself. As he fell to the turf, Smith kept his eye on the ball and made the catch for an epic 32-yard gain.

Watch for yourself:

Smith’s catch led to a field goal for the Gamecocks as they look to pull off the upset. That field goal extended South Carolina’s lead to 30-19 with 9:13 remaining in regulation as USC pulled off a 30-22 upset. Smith finished the game with eight catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Smith entered Saturday’s game with 26 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Those 26 catches ranked third in the SEC through three weeks of play. He’s now up to 34 catches for 347 yards and three scores after Saturday’s win.
