YouTuber's body battle after weight loss

Those who have gone through a significant weight loss journey know it can change your life in more ways than ever expected.

After losing 31kg, social media star and YouTuber Remi Cruz, looked and felt great physically, but the repercussions on her mental health weren’t as sunny.

Since starting her health journey 18 months ago, Remi has struggled with body dysmorphia, and while she insists she’s “happier” than ever as a result of her lifestyle change, she’s also had to battle some inner demons.

“I had all these insecurities before and they came out while losing the weight which is so crazy and I wasn’t expecting that,” the 24-year-old tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

“You’re constantly looking at what’s working and what’s not working and what’s looking different and what’s not looking different – it’s an unhealthy thing for sure.”

Remi began documenting her weight loss August 2017, sharing the whole journey with her 2.5 million subscribers on YouTube.

While she started off with an initial weight goal in mind, she soon realised that wasn’t a healthy mindset to be in.

“I’m now at the point where I’ve reached the goal I set, and I realised I’m still not fully there yet, there’s still things I’m nitpicking myself about,” she explains.

Discussing the mindset of I’ll be happy when I look like a certain way some people have when beginning their weight loss journey, Remi admitted it’s just “not like that at all”.

“I think I found so many things wrong with myself in the beginning and still do now,” she adds.

In fact, if Remi could go back in time, there’s a lot she’d want to tell herself.

“Accept your body for how it is now, and accept every part about it,” she says. “Everything about you is amazing right now.

“I wish I could go back in time and tell myself that.”

While she has struggled with accepting herself mentally, Remi is elated with the progress she’s made in changing her lifestyle.

“All I know is I’m so much happier and healthier than I was before,” she says.

In the 18 months she’s been on her health journey, a lot has changed for the social media star and not just the number on the scales.

Remi recently announced she’s partnering with Nike and their running club, in the hopes to help inspire more people to jump on the fitness and wellbeing bandwagon.

It seems the sky is the limit for Remi, and we’re excited to see where her journey takes her.
