Social Media Star Trisha Paytas Makes Surprise Cameo in 'SNL' Spotify Wrapped Skit
This week’s episode of Saturday Night Live took on everybody’s favorite end-of-year event: Spotify Wrapped. For those not familiar, Wrapped gives Spotify users a look back on their year in music, revealing things like your most listened-to artist or the song you played most on repeat, and allows them to share their stats across social media.
In the sketch, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, and Andrew Dismukes crowd around host Paul Mescal as he shares the results of his top played artists and songs. Mescal brags about his good taste and how proud he is of his lineup of artists, but his number one is a person that nobody else in the room has heard of before. “You guys don’t know Satoshi Gutman?” he asks, “The anti-instrumentalist sound guru out of Dundalk, Maryland?” Just because someone is obscure does not necessarily mean they are good, as is proved by Satoshi (Bowen Yang) when he performs “Y’all Made Me Celibate.”

The sketch is mostly bizarre and meandering, but some fresh life is breathed into it when the gang asks about Paul’s most listened-to podcasts (a slot that is once again filled by Satoshi Gutman). “Y’all don’t know Awakening? Satoshi’s new age pod?” Mescal asks before pulling up a clip of the show. We see Yang in front of a mic as he introduces his podcast guest, and shocks the audience when the actual Trisha Paytas shows up at his side. After the applause finally died down, the YouTuber and social media sensation exchanged a couple of jokes with Yang and worked the natural charisma that made her an internet star and perpetual meme. Though the podcaster (she’s not just playing one on TV!) has had her share of controversies in the past, the look on the cast’s faces suggests they were genuinely delighted to have her on the show. Her appearance may have been brief and unexpected, but it certainly made an impression.
