Snoop Dogg defends performance at Kansas basketball event: ‘The audience enjoyed that s---'

While the Kansas athletic department may still be doing damage control, Snoop Dogg has no regrets after his performance at the Jayhawks’ “Late Night in the Phog” event on Friday.

According to Snoop Dogg, “That’s what I do.”

“The audience enjoyed that s---,” Snoop Dogg said Tuesday on the “Howard Stern Show,” via TMZ. “I don’t know what the f--- they talking about.”

Snoop Dogg was hired to perform at the annual Kansas basketball kickoff event at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas, on Friday, and did exactly what one would imagine the Long Beach rapper would do.

He fired a money cannon sending fake $100 bills — which featured his face and marijuana leaves on them — into the crowd, brought in “acrobatic dancers” who danced on stripper poles set up on the court and played unedited versions of his songs.

“I didn’t know there was going to be anything like that,” Kansas coach Bill Self said after the event.

Naturally, Kansas athletic director Jeff Long issued a quick apology after the performance — somehow claiming he didn’t know that’s the type of concert Snoop Dogg was going to put on at their “family-friendly” event.

The show came just 11 days after Kansas was hit with a severe Notice of Allegations from the NCAA regarding payments Adidas reps made to players and for a lack of institutional control, too, making their decision to bring in the iconic rapper even more questionable.

“I take full responsibility for not understanding what acrobatic dancers are in today’s entertainment world and offer my apology to anyone who was offended,” Long said, in part. “We strive to create a family atmosphere at Kansas and fell short of that this evening.”

Though he said the apology caught him a bit off guard, Snoop Dogg insists he had “the time of my life” in Lawrence.

In his eyes, he did exactly what he was hired to do.

“I think it was more the publicity of what I did. [Kansas] had to cover it up,” Snoop Dogg said, via TMZ. “And, I respect them, and I wasn’t gonna put no smut on their name and say they did anything wrong because they invited me to come do what I do.

“And, when you pay for Snoop Dogg, you gon’ get Snoop Dogg.”
