Simon Cowell denies he plans to retire from TV judging roles

Simon Cowell has denied claims he plans to retire from TV.

The Britain’s Got Talent creator - who recently admitted he was scaling back his work load for fear of "burnout" - has dismissed reports he is considering taking a back seat on his TV shows.

Cowell, 62, is quoted in The Mirror as saying: "We all consider it, of course. But then again, what am I gonna do? Ever since I started work, I have tried to go without a schedule.

“It was always like, ‘If you’ve got a good idea and you believe in it, just try and make it work’.”

The X Factor judge - who became engaged to his 44-year-old girlfriend on Christmas Eve 2021 in Barbados - also told his ex Terri Seymour on Extra TV that he is committed to appearing on BGT and America's Got Talent.

He told TV presenter Seymour in an interview: "I think there is some confusion… What am I going to do if I retire? Because I don’t play golf… I’d be bored out of my mind.

He added: “Look… I have this job here and in England, and if something good comes up, I’d do it. It’s just about having more choice, I think.”

Cowell - who is father to eight-year-old son Eric - recently told The Sun he had begun to scale back his work load for fear of "burn out".

He said: "I made the decision that my main job would be being on TV, not running a production company. It was just all becoming too much.

"If I'm being honest, I was very nervous about burnout. I wasn't feeling ill, I was just terrified that would happen to me."

The X Factor was replaced on ITV last year by new talent show Walk The Line and Cowell made Take That's Gary Barlow head judge while he remained at his home in Los Angeles.

Cowell said at the time: “This is a situation where I have decided it is right for me to focus on my role as the creator and producer as we build up to the hugely exciting launch."

The music mogul and TV producer broke his back falling off an electric bicycle in August 2020.

Cowell was trying out a new electric bike at his Malibu home with his family when the incident occurred.

He is said to have adopted a vegan diet as part of his healthy new lifestyle.

TV's 'Mr Nasty' rose to fame 20 years ago as a judge on Simon Fuller's Pop Idol in 2001 and American Idol in 2002.

Cowell went on to launch his own TV talent show The X Factor in 2004, followed by America's Got Talent in 2006 and Britain's Got Talent a year later. Since then he has become a stalwart of ITV Saturday night TV.
