Shondaland’s White House Murder Mystery The Residence Gets March Premiere Date on Netflix — First Look
Shondaland is giving us another White House scandal this spring. The Residence, a “screwball whodunnit” set in the halls of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, will drop its eight-episode first season on Thursday, March 20, Netflix has announced.
Inspired by Kate Andersen Brower’s book of the same name, The Residence stars Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, “the most sought-after detective in the world.” According to her official description, she’s “wry, funny, relentless, supremely confident, an astute observer of human behavior… and a legendary birder.”

So, what brings Cordelia Cupp to the White House on the night of the State Dinner? Murder, of course! And with the help of her trusty-yet-skeptical sidekick, FBI Special Agent Edwin Park (played by Randall Park), she’s determined to figure out who’s responsible.
The Residence also stars Edwina Findley (If Loving You Is Wrong), Molly Griggs (Servant), Jason Lee (My Name Is Earl), Ken Marino (Party Down), Al Mitchell (Swagger), Dan Perrault (American Vandal), Bronson Pinchot (Perfect Strangers), Julieth Restrepo (Griselda), Mel Rodriguez (Getting On), Susan Kelechi Watson (Will Trent), Isiah Whitlock Jr. (Your Honor) and Mary Wiseman (Star Trek: Discovery).
Additionally, Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) will play White House Chief Usher. A.B. Wynter, replacing the late Andre Braugher, who was originally cast in the role.
Series creator Paul William Davies (Scandal, For the People) serves as showrunner, executive-producing alongside Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
