Is this the most controversial comment in MKR history?

My Kitchen Rules is controversial at the best of times but this shocking comment from one of the contestants on Sunday night’s episode left fellow competitors and viewers stunned.

In between meals during Pat and Bianca’s instant restaurant, the contestants started revealing their first impressions of one another.

But when the discussion turned to what people thought of six-feet tall socialite Karolina Borkovic, things took a turn for the worse, stopping the dinner party in its tracks.

Veronica was the first to admit she was a “little scared”.

“You’re a very tall woman, you’re extraordinarily tall,” she said.

“It’s true, I thought you were trans,” added 60-year-old Lyn Ellbourn, clearly without thinking.

“You thought I was a transvestite?” Karolina fired back, obviously stunned.

Lyn was quick to apologise and said she “didn’t mean to upset her”, but Karolina said it was something she is “really sensitive about” and the comment hurt her feelings.

Lyn walked away from the table distressed, leaving teammate Sal to defend her.

“Lyn’s not like that at all,” he told Karolina. But she wasn’t having any of it.

“It hurt my core,” she said. “I have two beautiful sisters and we’re all very tall. Our stature is not particularly gentle, our personalities are not particularly gentle, but we are far from being transvestites.”

Lyn eventually composed herself and returned to the table with Sal, and the rest of the evening proceeded smoothly.

But viewers were also shocked by what had happened and took to social media to voice their opinions.

Many applauded Karolina for how she handled the situation.

Others however, argued that Karolina’s reaction was just as insulting as Lyn’s original comment.
