New Shawn Mendes, a James Patterson adaptation, and a Jesse Eisenberg dramedy top this week's Must List

Netflix's "Arcane: League of Legends" season 2 and ensemble holiday movie "Christmas Eve in Miller's Point" round out our picks for the weekend of Nov. 15.

Our official EW review will come closer to its Nov. 22 release date, but I'm already singing the praises of Jon M. Chu's Wicked. Cynthia Erivo is captivating, Jonathan Bailey radiates charm, and Ariana Grande is perfection in pink. You won't have to be a superfan of the Broadway musical (or Gregory Maguire's source novel, which I read when I was far younger than I should have been…) to get lost in the incredible spectacle of this technicolor take on the world of The Wizard of Oz. —Patrick Gomez, Editor-in-Chief

After taking a step back from the spotlight to care for his mental health, the "In My Blood" and "Stitches" singer-songwriter returns with a soft-pop, folky sound unlike the hits the three-time Grammy nominee is known for. Exploring love, loss, and life beyond the surface, his fifth (and second eponymous, after 2018's Shawn Mendes) studio album is a vulnerable, reflective record that reintroduces the former teenage pop star as a man finding himself.—Briana Edwards, Social Media Editor

Aldis Hodge on 'Cross'

James Patterson fans finally have the Alex Cross adaptation they deserve. Cross isn't based on any particular book, but the Prime Video series delivers all your favorite characters in a world that feels both familiar and exciting. Aldis Hodge leads the charge as Alex, the charming (and grief-stricken) detective desperate to find his wife's killer.—Samantha Highfill, Executive Editor

Jesse Eisenberg has crafted a road trip dramedy for the ages with his sophomore directorial effort about two polar opposite cousins — Benji (Succession's Kieran Culkin) and David (Eisenberg) — who bicker and bond on their trip to visit their Holocaust-survivor grandmother's childhood home in Poland following her recent death.—Gerrad Hall, Editorial Director

Netflix's animated video game adaptation tells the origin story of champions Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell) rising out of utopian Piltover and the underground of Zaun. Season 2 (releasing over the next few weekends) amps up the explosive action.—Debbie Day, News Editor

In Tyler Taormina's invigorating, unclassifiable third film (about an extended family's last Christmas at their shared childhood home), familiar narrative conventions fall away, leaving an exaggerated fantasia of consumerist rapture, family drama, and existential ennui.—Ryan Coleman, News Writer
