All About Shawn Johnson and Andrew East's 2 Kids (and Baby on the Way!)

The retired gymnast and former NFL star are parents to Drew Hazel and Jett James and currently expecting a third child

Shawn Johnson and Andrew East are accomplished former athletes, and they’re also parents to two kids — Drew and Jett — plus a third baby on the way.

Their paths crossed when the gold medal-winning gymnast retired in 2012, and she met her now-husband shortly after. Fast forward, Shawn and Andrew got married in 2016 in Tennessee. Following their nuptials, Shawn suffered a miscarriage just two days after finding out she was expecting in 2017. The couple shared an emotional YouTube video talking about the experience.

“The past 48 hours have been some of the happiest, scariest, and saddest times of my life,” she wrote in the video's description. “My husband Andrew and I found out that we were unexpectedly pregnant, only to find out hours later some tragic news. I have been crying more than I ever have, but am still optimistic for what is next.”

In 2019, Shawn and Andrew welcomed their first child, a daughter named Drew Hazel. The couple then celebrated the arrival of their son, Jett James, in 2021. Most recently, Shawn announced on Instagram that they are expecting their third child.

"[I] was just feeling off and took a pregnancy test," Shawn told PEOPLE in July 2023. "It was really nothing romantic or crazy like a YouTube video. And [I] told my husband literally three minutes later."

Drew Hazel East, 4

The couple announced they were pregnant in April 2019 in a YouTube video. “@theeastbaby ... we cannot WAIT to welcome you to the world and shower you with love. @andrewdeast WE DID IT!” Shawn wrote alongside a photo of her and Andrew pointing at her belly on Instagram.

Six months later, Drew Hazel was born on Oct. 29, 2019, weighing in at 8 lbs., 8 oz. and measuring 20.5 inches long. According to Shawn's Instagram post sharing the news, Drew's name is a nod to Andrew. “Named after the most incredible person I know ... her daddy,” she captioned an Instagram picture of them kissing Drew.

Throughout the years, the couple have shared her milestones and other sweet moments — from meeting her icon, Blippi, to becoming a big sister. Nicknamed “Roo,” Drew is “definitely daddy's girl through and through,” Shawn wrote on Instagram in 2020.

Another highlight was the full-circle moment when Shawn took her family to meet her longtime former gymnastics coach, Liang Chow, in 2022. During their visit, Drew showed signs that she might be into her mom’s sport and took a particular interest in the trampoline.

"The fun part, once she started warming up, she was just running, zig-zagging all over the gym," Shawn said in a different YouTube video. "She was like 'Mama, beam.' 'Mama, bars.' 'Mama, trampoline.' 'Mama, vault.' "

Jett James East, 2

Shawn shared the news about baby No. 2 on Instagram with four words, “Here we go again.” The January 2021 announcement included photos of her bump and Drew holding a tiny pair of sneakers.

On July 19, 2021, Shawn and Andrew's son Jett James East was born. “We are so happy to welcome our little man into the world,” they said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “We are loving life as a family of four and soaking up every minute."

A few days later, they provided more details about their second baby on their YouTube channel. Jett measured 21 inches long and weighed 9 lbs., 13 oz., and Shawn also opened up about his name on Instagram. Jett James combines her great-great-great grandmother’s and her husband’s brother’s names.

These days, Jett is on the move — especially when it’s less than convenient for his parents. In October 2023, Andrew shared a video showing Jett escaping from his pack-and-play in the middle of the night. “He wasn’t even 2 when he did this. all hands on deck w this guy,” the former NFL star quipped in the Instagram caption.

In fact, Jett and Drew have started working together to learn about babyproofing, as seen in an Instagram video of the brother and sister duo figuring out how to undo safety locks. “Plz help,” Andrew wrote.

During a family trip to Greece in July 2023, Shawn posted several bump photos on Instagram to announce that she was pregnant. She’s due sometime in December and talked to PEOPLE about how their baby could have the same birthday as Andrew’s late father, who died in December 2022.

"We were just sitting on the couch watching TV and I had done calculations," Shawn said. "It took me off guard and I was like, 'Babe, guess what? I'm pregnant. And it could be on dad's birthday, which is wild.' "

Shawn also added that she was feeling nauseous in her first trimester and experiencing tiredness from “chasing around two toddlers while being pregnant.”

According to Shawn, those two toddlers — Drew and Jett — are looking forward to having another sibling. She told PEOPLE, “I don't think Jett understands. Maybe he does, but Drew is very, very excited and she talks about it daily or kisses my belly daily or something. It's adorable."

Andrew also expressed his excitement for baby No. 3 in an Instagram Reel showing all the times his wife shared baby news, going back to 2017. “here we go again," he captioned the post, just like Shawn did when she announced her pregnancy with Jett.

"He loves babies. He's a phenomenal daddy and he is very excited," Shawn told PEOPLE of her husband. "I'm definitely the more anxious one, just hoping everything goes smoothly."
