Shailene Woodley to Make Broadway Debut Alongside Zachary Quinto in “Cult of Love”
The cast for Leslye Headland's new play also includes Barbie Ferreira, Christopher Lowell and Molly Bernard
Shailene Woodley is headed to Broadway! The Big Little Lies star will make her debut in Cult of Love, a new play written by Leslye Headland.
On Wednesday, Sept. 18, Second Stage Theater announced the star-studded cast who will be taking the stage alongside Woodley, 32. The ensemble includes Zachary Quinto, who previously shared the screen with Woodley in the 2016 biopic thriller, Snowden, as well as Euphoria's Barbie Ferreira, Christopher Lowell (Glow), Molly Bernard (Younger) and Rebecca Henderson (Star Wars: The Acolyte).
Stage performers Christopher Sears and Roberta Colindrez also round out the initial casting, with two remaining roles yet to be announced.
Written by Headland, 44, and directed by Trip Cullman, Cult of Love tells the story of four adult siblings returning to their childhood home for the holiday season.
Per Second Stage Theater, the family's "traditions include singing carols in harmony at the drop of a hat, but the gathering is anything but harmonious. Old conflicts resurface, new issues battled, and dinner is taking absolutely forever to be served." But amid rising tensions, "will the love the Dahl [family] have for each other be enough to get them through, or will this be their last Christmas together?"
In addition to Woodley, Headland will also make her Broadway debut with this play after writing and producing several Off-Broadway productions, including Bachelorette, which she adapted into the feature film starring Kirsten Dunst and Rebel Wilson. Prior to returning to theater, Headland created the Star Wars series, The Acolyte, and co-created Russian Doll, the Emmy-winning Netflix series starring Natasha Lyonne.
As for Woodley, the actress can currently be seen on TV in the Starz series Three Women, which also features DeWanda Wise and Betty Gilpin. She also stars in the upcoming Prime Video movie, Killer Heat, opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Richard Madden.
Quinto, 47, meanwhile, can next be seen on-screen in the NBC medical drama, Brilliant Minds.
