Selena Gomez's Engagement to Benny Blanco Was a "Total Surprise"
The proposal, which included Taco Bell, "was very her."
Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are preparing to spend the rest of their lives together, and the former Disney Channel star couldn't be happier. On December 11, the Rare Beauty founder revealed that she and Blanco were engaged by sharing cute snaps from behind the scenes of their proposal—and according to new sources, Gomez was as surprised as the cute post-engagement photos suggest.
A source told People that the engagement—which took place with a picnic complete with her favorite meal from Taco Bell—left the 32-year-old feeling ecstatic. "It was very her," the source said. The Rare Beauty founder didn't see the engagement coming, with the source noting that "it was a total surprise to Selena."
After Blanco proposed and Gomez said yes, People reported that the couple had an "impromptu gathering" with friends and members of their respective families to share the happy news. All around, it was a happy day for the couple that set the tone for their forthcoming wedding. "Benny and Selena were so excited to share the news right away with their loved ones," the source added. "It's such a true partnership between them."
Gomez formally announced her and Blanco's engagement with a carousel post on Instagram, which she captioned "forever begins now." In the photo set, she excitedly showed off her marquise cut diamond—a nod to the "I’m a marquise diamond/Could even make that Tiffany jealous" line in her 2015 hit, "Good For You"—and got a cute response from her husband-to-be in the comments section that read, "Hey wait…that’s my wife."
