Living with a squad of bodyguards monitoring his every move is nothing new for Prince Harry, and something his wife Meghan Markle has become increasingly used to in her new life as a royal.

But the newlyweds are now being watched by more security than ever before, following reports their $2.5 million Oxfordshire country home has been secretly upgraded to receive the same level of protection as Buckingham Palace.

The Sun reports a team of up to 12 British special operations team armed with sub-machine guns are working in rotation to protect Harry and Meghan, with claims the boosted security measures are down to serious fears for the couple.

It’s believed the pair – who tied the knot just a few weeks ago in a high-profile wedding televised around the world – could be at risk of a Taliban attack, stemming from Harry’s days in the military.

In 2013, Harry – who served 10 years in the military, including two stints in Afghanistan – unapologetically spoke out about whether he had killed in the line of duty.

“Yeah, so lots of people have. The squadron’s been out here. Everyone’s fired a certain amount,” he said.

“Take a life to save a life, that’s what we revolve around, I suppose,” he added.

“If there’s people trying to do bad stuff to our guys, then we’ll take them out of the game, I suppose.”

With Harry more in the public eye now than ever, fresh fears have surfaced, which has seen anyone wandering near the couple’s Oxfordshire mansion stopped and searched.

The Sun reports Meghan and Harry have quietly settled into their renovated country home in the Cotswalds, taking some time out after the wedding and preparing for their honeymoon.

“Meghan, especially, seems intent on embracing village life,” reports the publication.

“They’ve been on romantic dates to the local pub and hidden themselves away at a quiet corner table.

“That said, their security team is usually on a table nearby, which probably kills the romance a bit.”
