The secret to Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness' 22-year marriage

In the world of celebrities, marriages that stand the test of time are few and far between nowadays.

Being in the small percentage of the long-lasting marriages in Hollywood, Hugh Jackman recently opened about the secret to his 22-year union with his wife Deborra-lee Furness.

The actor revealed it was all down to an agreement he and Deb, 62, made when they tied the knot in 1996 in Toorak, Victoria.

“When Deb and I got married, we made a pact that we would look at each other at every turning point in our lives and would ask ourselves if this is good or bad for our family,” the 49-year-old told Who.

The Greatest Showman star also praised how selfless his wife has been for him and their two children, Oscar, 18, and 13-year-old Ava.

So much so, Deb put her dream of accepting a place at her dream directing school to put Hugh’s career first.

“There’s a time no-one knows about when I was offered Oklahoma in London and she was offered a spot at the prestigious directing school at the Victorian College of the Arts – and that’s impossible to get into,” he explained.

Despite Hugh insisting they stay in Australia, Deb was even more adamant they should go to London.

“I never forget her selflessness in saying that because I know she always wanted to direct, and that was a big moment for her,” he added.

Earlier this year, the couple celebrated their 22-year wedding anniversary.

Hugh posted a touching tribute about Deb on social media, admitting their connection “only gets deeper”.
