Sean McVay believes NFL's mask memo was directed at him

The NFL isn’t happy that a number of its coaches didn’t wear their masks properly in Week 1. On Monday, the league expressed its disappointment, warning teams that coaches must wear face coverings at all times.

While a number of coaches violated that rule in Week 1, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay believes the NFL’s memo was directed at him.

McVay said he was contacted by the NFL regarding his improper mask usage during Sunday night’s game. McVay, 34, had a mask, but it sat around his neck — and not over his nose or mouth — for most of the game.

McVay admitted he needs to “do a better job of that,” and vowed to be more conscious of his mask moving forward.

While McVay feels he was singled out, that probably wasn’t the case. A number of NFL coaches didn’t wear their masks properly during Week 1. There are pictures of Brian Flores, Matt Patricia and Sean Payton all patrolling the sideline with their masks not covering their nose or mouth.

In fact, McVay wasn’t the only coach who believed the mask memo was directed at him. Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden said the exact same thing. Like McVay, Gruden also vowed to do better with his mask moving forward.
