Report: Seahawks re-sign Josh Gordon, who still awaits reinstatement by NFL

The Seattle Seahawks are bringing back wide receiver Josh Gordon, who played five games late in the 2019 season with the club.

The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Gordon has been training in the Seattle area waiting for reinstatement after his latest league suspension, per Schefter.

Gordon, 29, is still seeking reinstatement from the league after being suspended in December. It’s his fifth suspension by the league.

Gordon signs back with Seahawks

The Seahawks claimed Gordon off waivers in November following his release by the New England Patriots. He had been on injured reserve with a knee injury suffered earlier in the season.

In five appearances, Gordon was targeted 11 times with seven receptions for 139 yards.

He was traded to the Patriots in September 2018 from the Cleveland Browns. They drafted him in the second round of the supplemental draft, but he missed extensive time due to NFL suspensions.

Gordon awaits reinstatement to NFL

Gordon applied for reinstatement in June and is still awaiting a decision from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The wide receiver was suspended indefinitely in December for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

He was first suspended by the NFL for the Browns’ first two games of the 2013 season for violating the same policy. The second suspension came the following season for issues stemming from a DWI arrest in Raleigh, North Carolina.

He was suspended for all of the 2015 season for another substance abuse policy and had an initial request for the 2016 season denied due to another reported failed drug test. He entered a patient rehab clinic and missed 2016.

After heading to the Patriots in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick, Gordon played 11 games in 2018 but was again suspended in December 2018 after he announced he would take a break from football to focus on mental health.

The Patriots won Super Bowl LIII that season and Gordon received a ring, but he sold it for $138,000 at an auction over the weekend.
