'We're fine thanks': Scott Morrison roasted after seemingly innocent cooking post

Scott Morrison has faced a battering from West Australians after sharing a seemingly innocent post to social media of himself cooking a curry meal for his family.

The Prime Minister on Saturday shared some harmless snaps of a “Lamb Rhapsody from Rajasthan” he made for his daughters, wife and mum; writing “family gets us through most things”.

However, something about the post seemed to strike a nerve with his West Australian audience.

“It’s been another very busy day as we work to help Victoria get on top of the #COVID19 outbreak as well as working through some issues in WA,” Mr Morrison wrote to his 647,406 followers.

He added that “while we don’t always get there, whenever I’m home on a Saturday night, I try to make it a family curry night”.

His comment appeared to rub a significant portion of the 7,500 people who left a comment the wrong way, many requesting that he “leave WA alone”.

The state’s border closure has been a matter of great contention recently, with Queensland billionaire Clive Palmer arguing it is unconstitutional and causing damage to the trade industry.

Premier Mark McGowan has doubled down on keeping the borders closed, saying it’s a necessary measure in place to protect citizens and is based on expert health advice.

A popular hashtag has come out of the disagreement, with people in support of WA borders staying shut using “#istandwithmarkmcgowan” - a common appearance in comments to Mr Morrison’s post.

“It is great you can spend time with your family. Thanks for keeping Australia safe. Please leave WA alone. I think we are moving forward the right way,” one person wrote in a comment.

“‘Some issues in WA?’, hard border keeps us safe, you've lost all support in WA if you force us to open it.... #istandwithmarkmcgowan,” another said.

“What issues are going on in WA? We are doing great here. My kids are able to go to school and my husband can work all without a worry,” someone else wrote.

Another expressed they thought it was “sad” Mr Morrison perceived WA wanted to “be safe” as an issue.

“Leave WA alone! We are doing just fine exactly as we are,” someone said, while another added that Mr Morrison was “part of our issue in WA”.

“What issues in WA? We're fine thanks. Don’t create issues where there are none,” another wrote.

While he faced abundant criticism from those in Western Australia, hundreds praised Mr Morrison for his handling of the pandemic and the fact he was taking time to be present with his family.

“Family is vital! Be blessed, you are doing a great job. So grateful to be in Australia,” one person wrote.

“Well done! You really deserve family time and your family deserve time with you. Keep up the good work,” another said.
