‘Saturday Night Live’ Cold Open Features Dana Carvey’s Reprise Of The Church Lady As She Scolds David Spade’s Hunter Biden

Dana Carvey returned as the Church Lady for the Saturday Night Live cold open tonight, interviewing a succession of sinners, including David Spade as Hunter Biden.

“I haven’t been here in a while. I have been laying low a little bit,” Spade’s Biden told her.

“Oh, I think that’s okay. At least you haven’t been doing a podcast,” Carvey’s Church Lady told him.

Spade and Carvey do the Fly on the Wall podcast.

“Easy, church woman,” Hunter Biden told her.

“Oh, Hunter, it’s actually Church Lady,” she responded.

“Oh, well, pardon me.”

“Pardon you? Who do you think I am, your daddy?” she replied.

And on the shtick went.

“They singled me out because of who I am. Much like Trump, they went after me because of my last name, and all the illegal things I did,” Biden insisted.

“Well, isn’t that special?” the Church Lady replied.

Biden was pardoned on Sunday by President Joe Biden, drawing condemnation from Republicans and a few Democrats on Capitol Hill. The president contended that his son was the target of a politically motivated prosecution.

That came up in the skit, as Hunter Biden insisted to the Church Lady that he thought “it was a good thing for the father to forgive the son.”

She responded, “Last time I checked, Jesus wasn’t walking around in a robe with no underwear, hanging out with prostitutes.

“I think he was,” Hunter Biden responded.

“Well, Jesus certainly didn’t turn wanter into crack,” she shot back.

“Wait, you can do that?” Hunter Biden responded.

Carney has appeared this season, the show’s 50th, as a confused Joe Biden, the latest figure to play the 46th president. He popularized the Church Lady, Enid Strict, during his tenure as a regular cast member on the show in the 1980s and early 90s, and has returned from time to time since then.

In the sketch, she opened by telling viewers that the past year was the most “satanic” in history. Her first guest was Matt Gaetz (Sarah Sherman), who was unrepentant.

The Church Lady told him, “You were involved in some sexual piccadillos, and they wrote a whole report about it, but somehow we never got to see if, did we? Isn’t that convenient?”

“For me it is, yes,” Gaetz told her.

“You better repent, Matt, there’s only 17 days left in Christmas,” she advised.

“You had me at 17,” Gaetz replied.

The sketch also featured Marcello Hernández as Juan Soto, and finished with the Church Lady and other cast members crooning “Satan Had A Good Year.”
