SAS celebrity contestant slams ‘messed up’ show: ‘I could’ve died’

SAS Australia is known for pushing celebrities to their absolute limits, subjecting the recruits to extreme tests of physical, mental and emotional endurance.

And it seems like the UK version of the reality TV series is just as tough, as one contestant has now revealed that he thought he actually might die on the show.

Love Island star Wes Nelson, who was one of the three participants to pass the selection process earlier this year, says that there were “three or four times” where he was worried for his life.

Speaking on the Tea Time podcast, the 23-year-old slammed the experience and revealed a particularly brutal unseen moment.

“It was the most messed up show I‘ve ever done in my life. We had hypothermia every day,” he said.

“Look at my tooth, my tooth got knocked back. There were trainers, one of them - not going to name who - stamped my head, smashed my face on the floor,” he claimed.

“There were about three or four chances, like clear cut times on the show where we could have died. Like I could have died. Dead.”

Shortly after Wes’ explosive claims about SAS, the show’s UK network Channel 4 released a statement about the wellbeing of those who take part.

“Contributor care is of paramount importance and we have strict protocols in place to ensure the health and welfare of each recruit before, during and after filming,” a spokesperson said.

“We take seriously all injuries and provide full medical support where necessary.”

Wes previously took to Instagram in August to detail how the survival competition exposed his mental and physical weaknesses.

“I was gonna say how difficult the course is but to be honest it’s just plain f**ked up!” he wrote.

“I’ve never been so humbled in my life! It broke me down, built me up and completely changed me as a person, I couldn’t be more grateful!”

The shock confession comes as Channel Seven released a new trailer for next year’s season of SAS Australia.

The teaser proves that the reality show has definitely upped the ante for 2022 as the celebrity recruits, including AFL icon Barry Hall, rugby superstar Ellia Green and AFL commentator Wayne Carey, are shown being lit on fire.

The upcoming season will also feature two new members of the directing staff: retired US Navy SEAL Clint Emerson, who served in the unit that took out Osama Bin Laden, and former British Special Forces soldier Dean Stott, who trained alongside Prince Harry.
