SAS star Dan Ewing reveals secret deal made with fellow contestant

In case it wasn’t made clear enough earlier this week when two recruits decided to play ‘dirty’ during a challenge, SAS Australia is definitely not a team game.

Dan Ewing has seemingly emphasised this point when revealing that the secret off-screen pact he made with a fellow contestant before filming began ended up going awry.

Speaking with news.com.au, the former Home and Away star confessed that he and Koby Abberton had struck up a deal behind the scenes.

The two men formed an alliance before they even arrived at base camp as they believed the group would likely have to be put into pairs for a boxing match like last year’s season.

“We knew they were going to do the boxing thing, right - so I said, ‘You know what’s going to happen here, our boys are the same age… I don’t want them to see their dads knocking each other’s heads off,” Dan explained.

The 36-year-old went on to say that they had planned to “just step through the motions” and “try not to kill each other”, but things changed when the task eventually arrived.

“When we stepped out, I saw (Abberton’s) eyes and they were just red,” he detailed.

“I was just like, ‘I’ve made a mistake here’. He’s smaller but he’s a trained fighter, so I was just like… Protect the face!”

Fans of the show would recall that a number of recruits raised their hand when Chief Instructor Ant Middleton asked the group which of them wanted to fight Koby, with Dan being the one chosen.

The Bra Boy was clearly more aggressive during the challenge and delivered a number of intense punches, while the Directing Staff encouraged the duo to “keep fighting”.

“When his headgear came off, even though he’s an absolute machine and hit me 3000 times, I was like, ‘I can’t do this, I don’t feel comfortable doing this for a TV show’,” Dan said.

Koby was eventually declared the winner, with Ant telling Dan: “You got your a**e kicked there, didn’t you Number 9?”

The admission comes shortly after Dan, who is one of the show’s final five celebrities on the show, opened up during an interrogation about the headline-making argument he had with his ex-wife’s new husband David Robertshaw in 2018.

“My little boy is six now. When he was three. It became apparent to me that he, he was calling his stepfather Dad, and I was Daddy. That to me is a pain that I would not wish on any father. Any mother,” he recalled.

“I want to be really clear here, his stepfather is a very good man. His mother is a terrific woman, Okay, that's not, I'm not disputing that. But to hear that. That was pretty bad. I wasn't his Dad. I was Daddy, and that hurts to have that title taken away.”
