Sarah Rafferty Reveals if She Plans on Returning for 'Suits' Spinoff
Sarah Rafferty is knee-deep in the world of Suits these days, watching the series for episodes of her Sidebar podcast with former co-star Patrick J. Adams. While she's watching her character Donna Paulsen's progression throughout the show's nine-season run, she may have some ideas about where her character could fit in the future of the Suits universe.
The actress spoke with Good Housekeeping in September about her latest venture and the importance of revisiting Suits for her fans. While Sarah was ecstatic to take on this new journey and get in step with why longtime viewers loved the show, she also couldn't help but talk about the upcoming spinoff Suits L.A. that's set to debut on NBC. When asked her thoughts about the franchise expanding in a new city with entirely new characters, Sarah couldn't contain her excitement over what's to come. What's more, she voiced how she'd be open to reprising Donna on the series... if she's given the opportunity to do so.
"I'm so excited for [creator] Aaron [Korsh] and his team of writers and producers — they're all family," she told us. "I'm so excited to also be able to fangirl on that. You know, people do ask us, 'Are you guys going to be on it?' It's going to have its first season with new episodes and whatever's right for that show. I'm always happy to put on the high heels and show up and support. But I also can support from behind the scenes, watching and enjoying it and spreading the word."
Well, isn't that an interesting piece of evidence? We'd certainly love to see Donna — and subsequently, Sarah — pop up on our screens again in some shape or form!
Now, how exactly could Donna be a part of Suits L.A., according to Sarah? While the actress didn't have a specific plan figured out, she did share one important quality Donna had on the original Suits that she'd love to see brought to life once again.
"Oh my gosh, I haven't thought of that!" she added. "Look — I think I know Donna is up in everybody's life, right? That's what makes her tick, being connected and close and intimate with her friends. I think a lot of women saw themselves in moments like those, especially when Donna said, 'I'm tired of being the person behind the scenes. I want to eat at the table." I really appreciate that and would love to explore that."
As fans know, Suits L.A. will follow former New York prosecutor Ted Black (played by Stephen Amell) as he moves to Los Angeles after building a reputation for representing some of the most well-known people in Manhattan. When he moves to the West Coast, it comes as his firm is in crisis mode and he needs to embrace a role he previously hated his entire career.
Although there isn't a release date yet, it's easy to say we're intrigued by what's to come... and how Sarah could be a part of it.
