Sarah Paulson Teases Return To ‘American Horror Story’ Franchise: “It’s My Home, It’s Where I Started”

Sarah Paulson has been a mainstay on Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story anthology series since her recurring role in the first season of the FX show in 2011, retroactively dubbed Murder House.

While promoting her new Hulu thriller Hold Your Breath, Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts asked if she would return to the horror franchise again.

“I think there is a big chance that I will return to American Horror Story,” Paulson said. “I’ve got everything crossed. I would like to do it more than anything. It’s my home. It’s where I started.”

She continued, “I got to play, you know, seven different characters in seven years, which as an actor is the most exciting, thrilling thing, and also allows an audience to be ready for anything you’re going to do because they’re not attached to one thing that you do, specifically. That has given me a lot of career flexibility.”

Paulson’s last appearance in the American Horror Story anthology series was in 2021’s Double Feature, where she starred as Tuberculosis Karen and Mamie Eisenhower in both halves of the show. She had previously starred in Asylum (2012), Coven (2013), Freak Show (2014), Hotel (2015), Roanoke (2016), Cult (2017), and Apocalypse (2018). Paulson skipped on appearing in 1984 (2019), NYC (2022), and Delicate (2023).

Paulson also noted that returning to AHS would allow her to work with her “favorite people,” adding, “If I could be reunited with Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy, you can pretty much tell me what time I will be there, and I will be there.”

Paulson has continued to work with Murphy on other shows, such as Impeachment: American Crime Story (2021), Ratched (2020), Feud (2017), and The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story (2016). She was recently cast on Murphy’s legal drama All’s Fair, where she will share the screen with Kim Kardashian, Glenn Close, Niecy Nash, Teyana Taylor, and Naomi Watts.
