Sarah Hyland reveals sexual assault in high school

The courage showed by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee about her sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has inspired others to share their #MeToo stories.

And not long after Busy Philipps posted about being raped at 14, Sarah Hyland shared her untold story too.

Using the hashtag #WhyIDidntReport, the Modern Family star, 27, bravely wrote about the assault, which took place about a decade ago, when she was a senior in high school. She wrote it was “a friend” who she says violated her on New Year’s Eve at an event where “everyone was drunk.”

“He broke in to the bathroom I was in,” the TV star said. “I hoped it was a dream but my ripped tights in the morning proved otherwise.”

Hyland didn’t report it for a few reasons, writing, “I thought no one would believe me. I didn’t want to be called dramatic. After all I didn’t say no. Shock can do that to a person.”

Hyland later shared a video from a new #TimesUp’s campaign, which calls on Kavanaugh to withdraw his nomination.

And she wrote that she believes Ford as well as his two other accusers whose names are public — Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick — writing “there is no path forward for Judge Brett Kavanaugh.”

Hyland is just one of several celebrities who have spoken out for the first time in recent days about being a victim of sexual assault as a teenager — similar to Ford’s allegations. Among the most prominent, Alyssa Milano has shared her story, and so has Padma Lakshmi.
