In a perfect world, I would stay in my pajamas all day, which, surprisingly, is kind of the cool thing right now. On my social media feed, people are leaning into the Copenhagen way of dressing, pairing striped pajama pants with trending shoes, timeless sweaters, and oversized totes before they head out for the day. Unfortunately, the look is a little too I just-rolled-out-of-bed for me. One wrong piece or an out-of-place wrinkle and the Scandi-girl ‘fit becomes, “Oh, poor girl, couldn’t even get out of her PJs today.” Luckily, Salma Hayek just introduced me to a chicer alternative.

When the actress landed at New York’s JFK Airport earlier this week, she opted for a look I’m fully prepared to copy and paste for my next flight (and for my casual Friday and Sunday errands). Perhaps inspired by this recent Jennifer Garner look, Hayek went for an elevated groutfit, pairing muted, silky cargo pants with a gray, robe-like jacket I can’t stop thinking about.

Her silk cargo pants were, of course, a must-have, putting a comfortable but chic spin on the trending style Oprah and Taylor Swift have also worn. But out of everything in this outfit, I was most drawn to her perfectly-draped sweater coat. With one look, Hayek convinced me that a knit jacket is the layering piece every closet (mine included) needs this fall.

The long gray coat hit just above her ankles, with a slightly oversized fit. She rolled up the sleeves and wore it open, giving movement to the medium-weight piece. Thanks to the silhouette and fabric, her sweater coat will look good with anything she decides to wear it with, casual or dressy. The knit material also adds a casual, comfy element, while the longer hemline and collar up the overall sophistication. It obviously looked good with her pajama-esque cargos, but it can also easily be worn with a mini dress and knee-high boots — and that’s the type of versatility that makes a sweater jacket a multi-year must-have.

While my obsession with loungewear immediately drew me to Hayek’s look, it was her jacket that convinced me my fall wardrobe isn’t quite complete. Shop more sweater coats you’ll wear nonstop below.
