Yahoo Lifestyle Saints WR Michael Thomas ruled out after reportedly punching teammate in practice
The New Orleans Saints have ruled out wide receiver Michael Thomas for Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
It’s not because of the lingering ankle injury that has kept him sidelined since Week 2.He’ll sit because of disciplinary reasons, the Saints announced on Sunday.
“The change in game status is not injury related-team discipline,” the Saints’ injury report reads.
Thomas originally was listed as questionable with an ankle sprain.
Thomas reportedly punched teammate
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Thomas had an “altercation” with a teammate at practice over the weekend. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that he punched safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. Saints beat reporter Nick Underhill reports that the two have a heated history together and got into a fight last season.
Thomas hasn’t played since suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints were hopeful Thomas would return for Monday’s game before ruling him out on Sunday.
Thomas is coming off a historic season that saw him catch an NFL record 149 passes for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns en route to being named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year. The Saints have struggled to make downfield plays this season in Thomas’ absence.
