Sabrina Carpenter on how her life is different now: 'I don’t cry every day'

Isn’t that sweet? I guess so.

Sabrina Carpenter is working late ‘cause she’s a singer, but she feels better about life than she did two years ago.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the “Espresso” singer explained how her day-to-day experience has shifted since the release of her previous album, 2022’s Emails I Can’t Send. “I cried every day then. I don’t cry every day now,” she said. However, Carpenter also noted that she’s always been confident in her own inevitable success. “I’m just annoying. I’m literally just annoying,” she said. “I never had the plan B, and it wasn’t even a thought in my mind that it wouldn’t work out. I just always knew it was about not if it would happen but when it would happen.”

The “Please Please Please” singer insisted that her lyrical subject matter is totally genuine and personal. “When I was younger, I think I’d almost feel pressure to write about mature subject matter because of the people around you being like, ‘This is something that is cool and what works.’ I didn’t do it until I felt like it was actually authentic to me,” she said. “Those real moments where I’m just a 25-year-old girl who’s super horny are as real as when I’m going through a heartbreak and I’m miserable and I don’t feel like a person.”

Rolling Stone noted that Carpenter avoided labeling rumored beau Barry Keoghan, who appeared in her video for “Please Please Please,” as her official boyfriend. “How do I skirt around this question?” she said. “The [dating] pool is the pool, and when you meet people that feel authentic and are so brilliant and amazing in every way, that’s what you do,” Carpenter told the outlet. “Obviously, I write songs about exactly how I feel, so I guess I can’t be so surprised that people are interested in who and what those songs are about. That’s something that comes with the territory.”

The singer also discussed her relationship with Taylor Swift, for whom she opened on the Latin American leg of the Eras Tour. “I hold her to such a different echelon,” Carpenter said. “I could never compare my life, my career, my trajectory to anything close to what she’s done.”

Carpenter went on to explain that she loves to voice her support of the “Shake It Off” singer, both publicly and privately. “We’re very, very verbal with each other about our mutual love and admiration,” she said. “She always puts out music at a time where I didn’t realize I needed those songs.

On the subject of Swift, Carpenter noted that despite fan speculation, there was no beef with the “Fortnight” singer after beginning a campaign for Skims, the fashion company founded by Swift’s rumored rival Kim Kardashian. “As much as people want to believe you’re tuned into every little thing, I’m not because I’m constantly working. In that scenario, I’ve been very, very communicative with [Swift] about that situation, and I just love her so much and support her till the end,” she said. “So it was no weirdness for me, but I know people will just say things because that’s all they have time to do.”
