Sabrina Carpenter’s Dating History: A Look at the ‘Taste’ Singer’s Relationships — and Where She Currently Stands with Barry Keoghan
Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan are reportedly "taking a break" in December 2024
Sabrina Carpenter’s dating history is fairly Short n’ Sweet.
The pop star’s first public romance was with fellow Disney kid Bradley Steven Perry, whom she dated for a year starting in 2014. Several years later, in 2020, Carpenter was linked to actor Joshua Bassett following his breakup with Olivia Rodrigo. After appearing to go their separate ways, the "Taste" vocalist was rumored to be dating Shawn Mendes and YouTuber David Dobrik.
Most recently, Carpenter was in an on-again-off-again relationship with Saltburn star Barry Keoghan before deciding to take a pause, a source confirmed to PEOPLE. "They are both young and career-focused, so they've decided to take a break," the insider of Carpenter and Keoghan said.
While speaking to Cosmopolitan in March 2024, the “Slim Pickins” singer called her dating life "fun" and "messy."
"A lot of it, for me, has been fate. I know that’s super broad, but I don’t actively look for [relationships]," she explained. "The relationships that I actually want to put my energy into have to be so interesting or invigorating because they take me away from the other things I love."
Here’s a look back at Sabrina Carpenter’s dating history.
Bradley Steven Perry
Carpenter and fellow Disney actor Bradley Steven Perry dated as teens from 2014 to 2015. Little is known about their relationship, aside from how Perry asked the "Espresso" singer to be his girlfriend.
"[It was a] really unique way to ask someone out. [It was] like the pirate movies, like they do the little bottles and they put notes in them and send them across the ocean, like one of those, and [he] put a note inside. It was cute," Carpenter told J-14 in June 2015.
That same month, Perry was by Carpenter's side at her Alice in Wonderland-themed 16th birthday party in Los Angeles, per Just Jared.
During a January 2024 episode of Perry's podcast, The Sit and Chat, he mentioned an ex-girlfriend who "does a little bit of singing" — and listeners believed he was speaking about Carpenter.
"My first girlfriend’s doing way better than anyone else in the world. I wish her nothing but the best," he said. "First loves are strange. It feels like such a long time ago, but that person still means something to you."
Perry is currently dating Candace Cameron Bure's daughter, Natasha Bure.
Griffin Gluck
Carpenter and actor Griffin Gluck appeared to have met on the set of Netflix's 2019 comedy film Tall Girl.
They were later photographed at a Los Angeles premiere party for the actor's Netflix series Locke & Key in February 2020. A month later, the "Please Please Please" singer supported Gluck at the premiere of his film Big Time Adolescence, per Just Jared.
It's unclear when Carpenter and Gluck ultimately split. However, the exes reunited for Tall Girl 2 in 2022.
Joshua Bassett
Carpenter and Joshua Bassett first sparked romance rumors when they were spotted at a Black Lives Matter protest in L.A. in June 2020.
Prior to dating Carpenter, Bassett was in a relationship with singer Olivia Rodrigo. The trio made headlines for several months after Rodrigo released her song "Driver's License" in January 2021. The track was about an ex moving on and included a reference to a "blonde girl," which was believed to be a subtle nod to Carpenter.
Later that same month, Carpenter seemingly responded with the song "Skin" and Bassett voiced his support. In a since-deleted Instagram post, she shared her thoughts on the work.
"The song isn't calling out one single person," she wrote. "Some lines address a specific situation, while other lines address plenty of other experiences I've had this past year."
Amid all the drama, Carpenter and Bassett scrapped their duet titled "We Both Know" after initially delaying the release. The High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star told GQ in June 2021 that he refused "to feed into any of the bull----" and identified as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Later that December, Bassett spoke to the outlet again and revealed that he was single. "I'm good on my own. I don't need somebody else," he said.
Shawn Mendes
Romance rumors about Carpenter and Shawn Mendes began to swirl after the pair were seen out and about in L.A. together in February 2023.
The following month, E! News reported that they were spotted leaving Miley Cyrus' album release party in the same car.
Shortly after, Mendes told the Dutch television show RTL Boulevard that he and Carpenter were "not dating."
Still, fans were convinced that several songs on Carpenter's album Short n' Sweet are about the "Treat You Better" singer being hung up on his ex-girlfriend Camila Cabello.
David Dobrik
In August 2023, Page Six reported that Carpenter and YouTuber David Dobrik partied together after her set at Lollapalooza in Chicago.
The "Bed Chem" singer seemingly shut down the dating rumors when she posted photos from the festival on Instagram and wrote, "sry i don’t date lollapaloozas."
Barry Keoghan
Carpenter and Barry Keoghan first sparked dating rumors in December 2023 when they were spotted having dinner together in L.A, per photos obtained by the Daily Mail.
The couple eventually confirmed their romance in February 2024 and made their red carpet debut at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty the following month.
Shortly after, Carpenter and Keoghan attended the Met Gala in May, and the actor starred in the singer's "Please Please Please" music video the next month.
Not long after, breakup rumors surfaced, and a source exclusively told PEOPLE that their relationship was "on and off" by the end of the summer.
In November 2024, Keoghan appeared on The Louis Theroux Podcast and called himself "incredibly blessed" to have Carpenter in his life. A month later, an insider told PEOPLE that the pair had "decided to take a break."
