When Pat Sajak first announced his retirement from hosting Wheel of Fortune back in June 2023, fans anxiously waited to see who would take over for the legendary TV star.
Amid guesses from longtime viewers, it was revealed that Ryan Seacrest would be the person next in line to host the hit game show. At the time, he shared his excitement for becoming associated with Wheel of Fortune, with Pat backing him up with his seal of approval over the choice. What's more, Ryan later spoke out about working alongside Vanna White, stating how thrilled he was to continue Pat's legacy with her as well.
If that wasn't enough, when the first official promo for Ryan's new gig aired back in June, folks witnessed Pat giving the American Idol host some kind words about what he could expect from his tenure on Wheel of Fortune.
"I think what you're going to enjoy most is meeting the players and getting to know the audience at home," Pat told Ryan in the clip at the time. "People love this show. They go and see us every day and spend a half hour with us and watch with the whole family. You're never going to find a better job, and you're never going to find a better co-host."

The news of Ryan's upcoming debut first broke on Instagram, where the TV personality announced the news on his On Air With Ryan Seacrest radio show. In a video posted on August 16, Ryan had his co-hosts Tanya Rad and Sisanie open up a promo box that revealed his official start date.
"@wheeloffortune with @ryanseacrest premieres on September 9th!" read the caption.
Naturally, viewers were ecstatic upon learning when Ryan would be taking his place as host of Wheel of Fortune. "Can’t wait to see Ryan host Wheel of Fortune! Go Ryan! ❤️❤️❤️," one person wrote in the comments. "Ryan I can’t wait for you to begin WOF. I’m so excited 🤩🤩🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💯🇨🇦," another declared. "Oh wow less than a month away!!! Can't wait 😀😀. 🙂🎶," a different follower added.
As fans of the show may be aware, the news of Ryan's official Wheel of Fortune start date holds up with the TV schedule pattern seen in years past.
When looking at the game show's season 41 schedule which aired during the 2023-2024 TV season, TV Guide reported the first episode (titled "European Vacation") aired on Monday, September 11, 2023. Given how that timeline coincides with the season premieres of primetime television shows, Ryan's first episode checks out in a similar timeframe for season 42.
What's more, even before Wheel of Fortune confirmed the official air date of Ryan's first episode, he was certainly excited about spinning the wheel. When speaking to Good Morning America back in February, he expressed his excitement while acknowledging the importance of him doing a good job in the role.
"Pat Sajak is such a legend," he said at the time. "He makes it look so easy and smooth and seamless. He's remarkable."
