Buckingham Palace is hiring a Director of Royal Travel as part of its staff, just months after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private jet row which made headlines earlier this year.

The position, believed to be a newly-created one, is a full-time role based at Buckingham Palace in London.

The individual who gets the job will lead a small team in the Royal Travel office, and have “overall responsibility for organising the royals’ air travel; the Queen’s helicopter journeys; and use of scheduled train services together with the Royal Train.”

What’s more, they will advise based on a number of considerations – including environmental.

“You will also liaise with the relevant authorities to provide advice and recommendations on travel, taking into account security, safety and environmental considerations,” the job description advises.

It comes in the wake of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private jet row, where the couple faced widespread backlash for taking four private jet journeys in less than a fortnight, while promoting climate change initiatives.

The Duke of Sussex addressed his family’s use of private jets during an eco-travel conference in the Netherlands.

"I spend 99 per cent of my life travelling the world by commercial,” he said after being asked about his travel means.

“Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe.”

Both Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry have since taken a number of commercial flights.

However no link has been made between the controversy and the royals’ decision to hire for the new role.

This isn’t the only position the royals have hired for lately.

Earlier this month, a cleaner role was advertised on the Buckingham Palace website, for a candidate to join the Master of the Household’s Office department at Windsor.
