Why the royal family will probably ignore Meghan Markle’s family drama

When it comes to her family, the Duchess of Sussex has had another tough week.

Her father, Thomas Markle, gave another tell-all interview, in which he claimed his daughter is “terrified” in her new royal life.

Meanwhile, her half-sister, Samantha Markle, made headlines once again after tweeting that Prince Harry is a “wuss” for allowing the duchess to “mistreat everyone who has been close to her.”

Knowing how to manage the outspoken Markle family is a subject the senior communications team at Kensington Palace has had to contend with since Meghan and Harry’s engagement was announced last November.

But royal experts Victoria Howard and Liz Brewer have told Yahoo U.K.’s The Royal Box that the royals themselves, including the queen, will ignore the Markles as part of a long tradition of not responding to unfavorable headlines.

“It’s the Queen Mother who said ‘never complain, never explain,'” noted Howard. “People will think you’re whining — being a royal comes with privilege.”

“They won’t deal with this behind the scenes because it will end up in tears,” Brewer added. “Rules are rules and this code of behavior will continue to be followed.’
