Rihanna celebrated a major personal achievement as she rang in the New Year

As the clock struck midnight on Wednesday, the singer revealed that she abstained from alcohol for all of 2024 while sharing her end-of-the-year countdown on Instagram. In a clip shared to her grid, Rihanna—dressed in a fuzzy gray robe and diamonds—held up her phone to show the annual ball drop in Times Square, before excitedly declaring to fans: "Y'all I didn't drink all year! I didn't drink all year."

She aptly captioned the post, "New Year, New Me." In her post, Rihanna didn't mention if her break from alcohol was temporary, or it was a lifestyle choice she planned to keep moving forward in 2025.

Many fans congratulated the Savage x Fenty founder on the milestone, while others commented on how another year passed without her releasing a new album. “New Year, Old albums,” one follower wrote. Another joked, “I thought it was the countdown for the album drop.”

After headlining the Super Bowl in February 2023, Rihanna—who has been hyper-focused on her fashion and beauty brands—promised fans that she would release her ninth studio album later that year. That date came and went, and the next year, she told Extra that the only reason the record hadn't been released yet was because she was busy perfecting it.

“It’s gonna be amazing. It has to be—that is the only reason it’s not out yet. If I’m not feeling it and I’m not feeling like it represents the evolution, the time I spent away," she said. "There should be a show of growth, right? I want to play, and I feel like music is a playground, and I want to have fun with it and show truly where I am at.”
