Richard Reid takes a swipe at the Today show

Having been the showbiz gossip guru on the Today show for seven years before he left in 2005, Richard Reid knows very well how the breakfast TV show works.

The TV star, who just took out the I‘m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner’s title, has now weighed in on Today’s lower ratings since Karl Stefanovic was dumped at the end of last year.

“Deb Knight is delightful,” Richard tells Yahoo Lifestyle of Karl’s replacement who now hosts the Channel Nine program alongside Georgie Gardner.

“Let’s just say when Richard Wilkins and I were together, we were on fire and the ratings were good,” he then laughed. “That’s all I’ll say.

“I love Richard Wilkins. He’s such good value, and he’s an awesome friend to me. He’s always been the best,” explains Reid, adding, “Well you can’t beat a couple of D**ks”.

Richard Wilkins still has a role reporting on entertainment with the Today show, but he’s taken somewhat of a step back this year as Brooke Boney has joined the team to deliver celeb goss.

Meanwhile Reid was the show’s go-to source for news straight out of Tinsel Town for seven years before leaving in 2005 to pursue other TV ventures.

His most recent has been I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, of which he was crowned the winner during Sunday night’s episode.

Reflecting on his reality TV success, Richard says he’ll soak up the glory for all its worth.

“[I’m] just going to enjoy being King of the Jungle for the week,” he admits.
