Rebel Wilson opens up about parenting struggle: 'Really challenging'

Rebel welcomed her first child via surrogate in November.

Rebel Wilson has opened up about the struggles she’s experienced balancing motherhood and her successful film career in a candid new interview.

The Australian actress, who welcomed her first child Royce Lillian into the world via surrogate in November, told TODAY in the US that her life changed dramatically when she became a mother.

“You hold the baby and cut the umbilical cord and literally from that moment on, you’re just like - it was just amazing and so emotional,” she said.

Rebel went on to admit that she’s found it difficult trying to navigate her new role while still achieving her career goals and building a relationship with her girlfriend Ramona Agruma.

“It's really challenging,” she shared. “I have this big international career and I'm the breadwinner of my family—I like to think. So it's really challenging too, like, ‘Well, now how do I do all the things and be a great mother and great partner and all of that?’.”

After a big career year in 2022 starring in the Netflix comedy Senior Year and her first drama The Almond and the Seahorse, Rebel will take on her first-ever role as a director in 2023.

The Pitch Perfect star will direct and produce a feature film version of the Australian musical The Deb, written by Hannah Reilly with music by Megan Washington. It’s reported that Rebel’s production company Camp Sugar Productions began scouting for locations in November.

'A beautiful miracle'

Rebel surprised her followers in November when she announced the birth of her daughter Royce with a heartwarming Instagram post.

“I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle!” she wrote. “I am forever grateful to everyone who has been involved, (you know who you are), this has been years in the making… but particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care.

She went on to say that she is “ready to give little Roycie all the love imaginable” and she is “learning quickly”, adding: “Much respect to all the mums out there! Proud to be in your club.”
