Rachel Zegler channels Katniss Everdeen in fiery gown at “Hunger Games ”prequel premiere
The "Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" star pays tribute to Jennifer Lawrence's Girl on Fire scene at the Berlin premiere.
Cinna would be so proud.
Rachel Zegler paid homage to a major Hunger Games fashion moment at the Berlin premiere of prequel movie Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. At Zoo Palast on Sunday, Zegler channeled the fiery gown Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen wore in Catching Fire designed by her stylist Cinna (Lenny Kravitz) to burst into flames, deeming her as the Girl on Fire.
Zegler opted for a black gown by Alexander McQueen that flares out to red at the bottom, resembling flames.
The star, who plays Lucy Gray Baird in the prequel, was joined by costars Tom Blyth, Hunter Schafer, and Josh Andrés Rivera at the premiere.
Set decades before the events of the original franchise, Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows a teenage Coriolanus Snow (Blyth took over the role from franchise star Donald Sutherland) before his turn as the tyrannical president of Panem. It's the 10th annual Hunger Games, and the young Snow must mentor the wily District 12 female tribute Lucy Gray Baird, a member of the musical Covey nomads. Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage, and Jason Schwartzman also star.
Director Francis Lawrence has called Zegler's Lucy Gray the "anti-Katniss."
"They're both survivors. It's just how they actively survive are very different," Lawrence told EW of the two heroines. "The tools at Lucy Gray's disposal are very different. She's charming. Katniss isn't charming. Lucy Gray is more of a people person. She's a performer. She's more effervescent, but she also knows how to manipulate. She's mercurial; she can turn it on when she needs to."
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is in theaters Nov. 17.
