Clear eyes, full hearts... new TV show?

When Friday Night Lights first aired on TV back in 2006, viewers were curious to see how the show differed from the 2004 movie it was inspired by. Following the lives of residents in a fictional Southern Texas town, whose identities are embedded in high school football, folks watched the characters achieve highs and lows on and off the football field. What's more, the NBC drama made stars from its then relatively unknown cast, with Scott Porter, Jesse Plemons, Taylor Kitsch, Zach Gilford and others going on to star in other major projects. Couple that with Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton leading the cast as Coach Eric and Tami Taylor, and it's no wonder the show became one that's still well-loved to this day.

Well, thirteen years after Friday Night Lights ended in 2011 after five seasons on the air, there's a chance we'll get to see the folks of Dillon, Texas (and its beloved team the Dillon Panthers) come back in a different way. According to a report from TV Line on November 15, a reboot of Friday Night Lights is in the works at Universal Television. What's more, it looks like the show (originally executive produced by Jason Katims, Peter Berg and Brian Grazer) already has options for a potential network, with Peacock, Amazon and Netflix all reportedly making bids for it.

Given how Friday Night Lights continues to maintain a following of loyal viewers, fans couldn't hold back their excitement on social media.

"Don’t tease me‼️🙌🏻," one person wrote on Instagram. "This is one reboot that makes sense cause you can do an entirely new school and team," another noted. "You get Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton to come back, and I’ll be there front and center," a different viewer added.

While it's unclear what the show could potentially be about, Friday Night Lights fans may remember the story of the series actually came from H.G. Bissinger's 1990 book Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream. The book later was adapted into the 2004 film and the series of the same name. And if that wasn't enough, the idea of the show being rebooted has come up multiple times over the years, with this time being the first to potentially make it to TV.

When asked by Variety about the possibility of a Friday Night Lights reboot back in September 2024, Connie's response seemed to shut down the idea. "You know the answer to that question," she said in a clip posted on X (formerly Twitter). "Then I heard that they're making another Friday Night Lights, which I find bizarre, because we've already had a film that was based on the original book. And then we had a TV show that was its own thing. So, now what?"

Looks like we'll just have to wait and see!
