What products are Aussies loving?

It’s always interesting finding out what kind of things other Australians might be putting into their shopping trolleys every week, something the annual Product of the Year awards always provide great insight into.

This year is no different, with one slightly bizarre product being named one of the winners, after 10,000 Aussie shoppers voted for their favourites items.

A Vaginal PH Self Test from Canesten (available at various pharmacies) was one of the 35 winners of the Product of the Year 2020 awards, announced on Thursday.

The test is something women can do to help evaluate if any vaginal symptoms, such as itching, burning, unpleasant odour, or unusual discharge, are being caused by an infection that needs medical treatment.

This year, 13 out of 35 winning items sit within the ‘health’ segment; whether that’s in the form of healthy snacks, food, oral care, digestive and gut health, or supplements, it’s clear that this is a real focus for shoppers.

Speaking of healthy snacks, Love Island host Sophie Monk would be happy to hear that her Choc Love Bites from Slim Secrets also took out a place on the winners list.

With a growing fixation on health and living a healthier lifestyle, it’s not surprising to see that it’s noticeably impacting people’s shopping habits.

The sentiment is backed up by recent Nielsen research that revealed “82 per cent of Australians have changed their eating habits in the past five years, with 86 per cent trying to be more health-conscious regarding their diet.”

Furthermore, “over one in two Australians claim to be eating healthier than they were five years ago.”

The winners of the Product of the Year for 2020 were announced by Sonia Kruger at an awards evening in Sydney on Thursday. Here are just a few of our other favourites:

There are several newcomers as well including Castello, Darrell Lea, Gravox, Sunsol, Dilmah, The Juice Brothers and Australia’s Own.

Coles also scooped up 5 awards; within the Cheese, Bakery, Cakes, Household Cleaning and Meal Solution categories.
