Priyanka Chopra froze her eggs in early 30s: ‘I felt such freedom’

Priyanka Chopra has said she felt “such freedom” after freezing her eggs in a candid new interview.

The Indian actress, 40, discussed her decision to go ahead with the medical process after desiring a family in the future, as she was more focused on her career at the time.

Chopra, who welcomed her first child via a surrogate last year, had considered her fertility more seriously following the advice of her mother Madhu Chopra, who is a doctor.

“I did it in my early 30s. I felt such freedom,” Chopra said on Dax Shephard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

“I could continue on an ambitious warpath that I wanted to achieve. I wanted to get to a certain place in my career. And I also hadn’t met the person I wanted to have children with."

The Bollywood star encouraged the women listening who want to have children someday but aren’t ready now, to consider freezing their eggs to increase the possibility of this being able to happen in the future.

Chopra continued: “I tell all of my younger friends; the biological clock is real.

“It gets so much harder to get pregnant after 35 and to carry to term and all of that. Especially with women that have been working all their lives.

“I tell people, ‘You save money to buy a car every month.’ Do it for Christmas. It’s the best gift you’ll give yourself. You’re taking the power of your biological clock."

Chopra announced with husband Nick Jonas the arrival of their baby girl in January 2022.

The actress recalled receiving “painful” reactions at the time after being questioned over her choice for a surrogate, telling British Vogue in January that “you don’t know what I’ve been through”.

Chopra revealed that she had struggled when her daughter was born three months prematurely during the first Omicron wave in the US, though thankfully the little one made it through.

“I saw what the intensive care nurses do. They do God’s work,” Chopra said.

“I didn’t know if she would make it or not.”

She added: “I’ve been really protective of this chapter of my life with my daughter. Because it’s not about my life only. It’s hers too.”
