Deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office rescued a man in Vero Beach, Florida, on Sunday evening, April 13, after a police chase ended in a fiery crash.Footage released by the sheriff’s office shows police rushing toward a burning vehicle after the driver is heard telling officers his “legs don’t work” when instructed to exit the vehicle.According to the sheriff, the motorist fled when officers from the Vero Beach Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Sunday night, “prompting deputies to respond to the area after officers lost sight of the vehicle.”“Shortly thereafter, while searching the area, deputies discovered the vehicle completely engulfed in flames in a small field on the west side of 26th Street and 82nd Avenue,” the unit said.The department said it believed the driver, identified as 41-year-old Donald James Jr, crashed into a tree while fleeing westbound.James, who was on probation after serving a 16-year sentence when the incident occurred, according to local reports, was transported to the hospital and will be charged with fleeing and eluding.According to Vero News, James broke a femur in the crash and was still in the hospital on April 15.
